HPP secures permission ensuring longevity for listed barns at Down Ampney

HPP has obtained planning permission and Listed Building Consent, on behalf of Farmcare Trading Ltd, for the conversion of agricultural buildings to residential use and rural workers accommodation, light industrial and gardeners store at Castle Hill Farm, Down Ampney.

Castle Hill Farm is situated approximately one mile north east of Down Ampney and comprises the largely disused farm buildings with a number of large modern agricultural barns to the north of the site which are, and will continue to be, used for agricultural purposes. The approach to the conversion has been to work with the layout of the existing farmstead and convert as many of the buildings as possible, whilst ensuring that sufficient space is left for circulation, parking and landscaping.

The traditional barn and horse engine house at the centre of the site is listed and contained protected species, therefore required careful consideration during the design process. Landscape and ecology appraisals, which recommended mitigation strategies ensuring the protection of the landscape and biodiversity on the site, accompanied the application.

The approved scheme will ensure that the character of the historic buildings is maintained and, furthermore, will ensure that the proposal responds positively to the site's historic and rural context and neighbouring land uses, primarily the agricultural uses.
